Our Resin Technology

Why Pour On Gravel Binder

engineered. flexible. durable.

StoneSet developed Pour On Gravel Binder in 2010 to meet demand for a more affordable, accessible alternative to full resin bound paving. Designed for DIY users, homeowners, and landscapers; Pour On provides the stability of a resin-bound surface while maintaining the natural look and permeability of loose gravel without specialist installation or higher material costs.

StoneSet PourOn Gravel Binder is built on advanced polyurethane resin technology, developed from decades of experience in resin bound surfacing.

Unlike basic binders or diluted sealers, PourOn is designed to create a flexible, long-lasting bond between decorative aggregates while maintaining a natural appearance and permeability.

The resin is moisture-curing, reacting with air humidity to form a stable, permeable matrix that binds stones in place while preserving the aggregate’s natural appearance. Once cured, the surface is safe to walk on for kids and pets.

What makes our resin different.

We supply two resin types to suit your project:

Clear (aliphatic) UV-stable resin – Fully UV-resistant and remains transparent long-term. Recommended for all outdoor projects, especially when using light-coloured or decorative aggregates, where maintaining the stone’s natural colour is essential.

Amber (aromatic) non-UV-stable resin – Yellows or darkens under sunlight exposure. Works acceptably with dark aggregates (brown, black, deep greys), but may noticeably change the colour of lighter stones.

Compared to water-based alternatives, polyurethane systems consistently outperform in strength, durability and long-term performance. Polyurethane binders offer superior:

  • Flexibility

  • Adhesion

  • Resistance to weathering, UV, chemicals and wear

  • Ability to absorb movement without cracking

Water-based binders such as Pour On Gravel Binder Light are often cheaper or easier to clean up, but they generally cure weaker and deteriorate faster especially under moisture, UV exposure, or freeze-thaw cycles. For Australian conditions, StoneSet’s polyurethane formulation remains the industry benchmark for stabilising and protecting decorative gravel surfaces.

Unrivalled Durability and Strength: A Surface Built to Last

When it comes to the daily wear and tear of foot traffic and even light vehicular use, not all binders are created equal. This is where the superior strength of a polyurethane binder truly shines.

Exceptional Bonding Power

PU binders create a significantly stronger bond between gravel stones compared to their water-based counterparts. This results in a robust, rigid surface that can withstand greater stress and movement without crumbling or deteriorating.

Great for Trafficked areas

For pathways, and patios that see regular use, a PU binder is the only choice for a durable, long-lasting surface. Water-based binders are often only suitable for decorative areas with minimal to no footfall.

Resists Scuffing and Scattering

Say goodbye to the constant sweeping and tidying of loose stones. The powerful bond of a PU binder prevents gravel from becoming dislodged and scattered, maintaining a neat and tidy appearance for years to come.

Superior Weather and UV Resistance: A Finish That Endures the Elements

Your outdoor surfaces are constantly exposed to the harsh realities of the British weather. From scorching summer sun to winter frosts, a polyurethane binder offers unparalleled protection.

UV Stability

Many PU binders are UV stable, meaning they won't yellow or degrade when exposed to sunlight. This ensures that the original colour and appearance of your chosen gravel are preserved, keeping your surface looking pristine. Water-based binders, and even some lower-quality aromatic PU binders, can discolour over time, detracting from the aesthetic appeal.
